Projektionen der Gewalt: Heimkehr (Gustav Ucicky, 1941)
Dieser Artikel analysiert historische und ästhetische Projektionen in Gustav Ucickys Propagandafilm Heimkehr aus dem Jahr 1941. Von Joseph Goebbels selbst lanciert, erzählt der Film vorgeblich die Geschichte einer Rückführung von Wolhyniendeutschen »heim ins Reich«, nachdem diese zuvor unter der polnischen Herrschaft gelitten hatten. Allerdings findet der Film hierfür Bilder und Motive, die allzu deutlich an die gleichzeitige Verfolgung von Juden und Polen durch die Deutschen selbst erinnern. Dieses scheinbar schizophrene Beispiel nationalsozialistischer Propaganda begreift der Autor als Indiz für eine historisch spezifische Verbindung von Wissen und Verleugnen bezüglich nationalsozialistischer Gräueltaten.
Projections of Violence: Heimkehr (Gustav Ucicky, 1941)
This article discusses the historical and aesthetic projections underpinning Gustav Ucicky’s 1941 propaganda film Heimkehr (Homecoming). Launched by Joseph Goebbels in the wake of the occupation of Poland, the film ostensibly tells the story of the repatriation of ethnic Germans who have suffered under Polish rule in Volhynia; in order to do so, however, the filmmakers employed images and tropes that would appear to recall the simultaneous persecution of Jews and Poles at the hands of the Germans themselves. The article proposes to view this seemingly schizophrenic example of Nazi propaganda as emblematic of a historical conjunction of knowledge and disavowal regarding Nazi atrocities.
